I will keep this short and sweet . . .
If you are a total newbie to wordpress or a CMS (content management systems) then the headway theme may be for you. On the other hand if you have any level of knowledge of WordPress or CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) then you may be better off with the Thesis or Genesis Theme.
Headway appears to have potential. However, I feel it needs to mature. After a couple sessions I found it difficult to use. Furthermore, I found it difficult to find where to change things. A looked around on the forums and was amiss to see many forum posts unanswered. Several were months old. At that point I decided to get a refund. Unfortunately, apparently headway changed their refund policy about 2 weeks before my purchase. After trading several emails with the developer I was denied my refund.
Headway Refund Policy: I was unable to obtain a refund.
There appears to be confusion over the refund policy at headway. In fact here as of 7/18/11 it still states there is a 30-day refund policy. A search on google will yield other unhappy headway buyers that were unable to obtain a refund.
For the reasons above I offer Headway free to download for evaluation purposes. Then at least you can try before you buy.

Genesis is probably the easiest theme to use if you want a professional looking site fast. There is a large variety of child themes that look great. They also can be modified pretty easily.

Thesis is known for being lightning fast and it has great SEO features. You can get a site up and running rather quickly. The options panels are easy to use and very intuitive.
